“La très longue nuit”, “The long long night"… As this one is more than a wink to surrealism, I thought it deserved a surrealist title.
Magritte used to ask his friends to brainstorm and find him a title for his last work. Unfortunately, all these funny guys are probably dust today, and spiritism is not a skill of mine…
So, I found another idea : to use a random generator of titles to replace Magritte’s friends.
I found a comics title generator written by a Dr. Folaweb, nuitbd.webdynamit.net/nuitbd2/inspirateurs/gen_titres/
I clicked a few times to see what I could get. I discarded “Le remarquable chirurgien chaud" (though Ionesco’s "La cantatrice chauve" is amongst my favorite books), "Le vaniteux mois des singes" and even "Le prisonnier rigolo”. I could have kept “Le rêve" (The Dream) but this was not surreal enough. So, here it is : "La très longue nuit" :-)Update May 6th, 2010 : I am happy this piece has been selected as the winner of the April’10 Evocative Landscapes Contest on Koinup. Here is the sum up of the jury’s statement:
“Simple, stylish, colourful… completly particular. She combined her graphic art with Rose Borchowsy’s visionary landscapes and the final result is really, really impressive and vibrant. The bright colors draw the silouhette, making the image minimalist, clean and really evocative.
Totally different from any other one, its unique touch makes it a perfect choice to be an icon to EvoLand”.
OMG, are they talking about my image there ???
No, seriously, thanks to all the members of the jury, I am truly honoured…
